Katherine Is a London based multi award winning stone carver since 1997. She has restored many prestigious and historic buildings, statues and monuments. She also carves commemorative plaques and installs new church furnishings such as altars. She also produces her own stone sculptures and was elected a member of the Art Workers Guild in 2007.
She has been teaching figurative and sculptural stone carving since 2013 at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, known for its figurative art work. She has also taught at the Art Academy. See her Stone Carving Courses.
After achieving a distinction in architectural carving at Weymouth College she further honed her skills during her two year carving apprenticeship at York Minster.
She has carved inscriptions commemorating events and important historic people such as Ignatius Sancho, the first black Briton to receive the vote; unveiled at Greenwich Park, and the Great West Door at York Minster; unveiled by HRH the Duke of York. She returns annually to carve the new Lord Mayor’s names at Kensington Town Hall and carves ongoing inscriptions on the remembrance plaques at St John’s Church, Notting Hill.
Her statue carvings include the restoration of prestigious London monuments, King George II, and the marble statues at the Albert Memorial, Royal Kensington Parks, where she was head carver. Her stone portraits include a medieval bishop and 3 architects’ heads for the restoration of Westminster Abbey’s Chapter House. She also sculpted journalist Darcus Howe’s portrait, winning an award. Her carved heraldic beasts and shields can be seen on Leicester Square’s London Hippodrome and Darnley Mausoleum in Cobham Wood, Kent.
Her architectural stone carvings include half a Corinthian capital at St Paul’s Cathedral, restoration works at London Hyde Park, Wellington Arch and Apsley House, Stowe School (National Trust) and Birmingham Town Hall.
She carved the new marble altar suite for St Peter and St Pauls Church, Wolverhampton which won the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Presidents’ Award 2009.

Katherine contributed to a Public Art Time Piece, designed by Marianne Forrest, by carving letters in Welsh and English on a circular stone bench. She was also commissioned to carve two sculptures by Atoi artists and Anarch Gallery which were exhibited at Tate Britain, Six Shooter Art Fair.
Teaching stone carving
Annually - Heatherley’s School of Fine Art, Chelsea, London.
Each spring for a 6 day period (including some extra days later on in the term). Teaching of figurative stone carving and sculpture to 2nd year diploma students.
The Art Academy, London Bridge, London.
2.5 terms in 2015. Weekday evenings teaching of figurative stone carving and sculpture.

Affiliations
Member of Art Workers Guild elected in 2007 -
Proposed by the renowned stone carver Dick Reid OBE and former master of the Art Workers Guild. She was seconded by Assheton Gorton who was an English production designer and nominated for an Academy Award for the film The French Lieutenant's Woman.
